My aim is to make beautiful work, so social commentary is subservient to that. What’s an ideal viewer? A very rich viewer with good taste. Do you like private views? Yes they start and finish early. No music to shout over and the light are on so I can show off my dress. If not an artist, then what? A traffic cop Favourite living artist? Jeff Koons, Luc Tuymans Is it easier or more difficult to be in the public eye with your alter ego Claire? It means I can leave my fame in the wardrobe but I can’t dress up anonymously. Who are the inspirations for the way she dresses? Anyone from Japanese teenagers to bohemian ladies of the twenties. What helps concentration? Nobody honking into a mobile outside my window.
